PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) is inaugurating the first stage of its development programme for increasing capacity and improving service quality.
In January 2009, JICT took delivery of 2 Super Post Panamax Quay Cranes from Zhen Hua Port Machinery Company Limited (ZPMC), one of China’s leading industrial equipment manufacturers. These cranes will operate on JICT’s North Berth, in addition to the existing 4 cranes, and will enable JICT to speed up loading and unloading of the largest ships calling at Tanjung Priok.
A further 2 Quay Cranes are scheduled to arrive in April 2009, enabling JICT to make further improvements in service speed and quality.
These 4 Quay Cranes are the first part of JICT’s expansion programme, which also includes construction of additional container storage areas, new gates and truck parking areas, new access roads to the planned Jakarta Outer Ring Road, additional yard handling equipment and state-of-the-art computer systems. This expansion will increase JICT’s container handling capacity from 2 million 20-foot containers to 3 million 20-foot containers.
This new equipment demonstrates JICT’s commitment to provide excellent services and to maintain its position as Indonesia’s main gateway for exports and imports.
Commenting on the arrival of the new Quay Cranes, Derek Pierson, JICT’s President Director, stated that JICT has a strong commitment to satisfying its customers by providing excellent services. Even though the world is experiencing a severe economic downturn at the moment, JICT is taking a long-term view and is prepared to make the necessary investments.***
